Charcoal drawing of Urban Landscape

02/10/2012

Today, developing on the last few weeks we were introduced to using charcoal to produce an expressive drawing of the outside view of Blackburn. For this we used the charcoal to create the landscape using the lines to make the individual buildings and create the layout of the drawing pushing back the charcoal when necessary. Contate was used to create a more permenant line where necessary and develop on the piece.

Individual could be used to create a sense of space the broader lines bringing the individual parts to the front and lines growing fainter made them appear far off. I had several problems with determining and producing the correct thickness several times and some of the the thicker buildings have appeared to close in comparison with fairly blurred trees.
