Inspired by the dark narative pieces of April A Taylor and John M Collier, over the course of the week I produced this painting. The image of the woman taped over her mouth is effectively provocative and calls to mind the darker aspects of human nature and it was this theme I wanted to put into the work.

In the production of it I had to constantly test out the colour so that it matched that of the subject. The contrast was crucial as well particularly the contrast between the side of the face with the other and I feel it was particularly important for the dramatic nature of the piece. My tutor had also proposed adding the motif of the coke bottle having been put in as a blurred object in the foreground.
