Over the last week or two I have recently done a variety of self portraits;

The first piece was drawn with pencil. In order to be successful I used the broadened lines to bring objects forward and used lighter lines to give the impression of distance. For this piece I tried to avoid smudging in order to make the shade look more natural.

The second was an expressive piece drawn out with charcoal. Similarly to my work with the urban landscape I attempted to use the charcoal to create the structure of the subject knocking back the intensity of lines when an object was to be distanced from the viewer and using the contate to broaden the lines that needed to be placed in the front.
